The Department of Behavioral sciences is actively involved in teaching students in the first three years of their study at the college. We focus on teaching students the essential communication skills required to deal with patients and their relatives, informing them about the essentials of medical ethics and what constitutes good medical practice and enlarging their understanding of the mechanisms behind the illnesses by imparting them the basic knowledge of Psychology and Sociology. This is done through lectures delivered to 1st , 2nd and 3rd year of MBBS, two weeks clinical rotation, group discussions and tutorials. We also provide student counseling services and have designated staff for students who need counseling at any stage during their stay at the college.
The department provides mental health services six days a week with regular outpatient clinics along with in-patient services. These clinics are held both in the morning as well as in the evening . The department provides training in the subject of psychiatry during the final year of MBBS consisting of core theoretical training along with applied and practical training.
