Islam Med-Intellect Challenge (IMIC) – Islam Medical College, Sialkot

The Islam Med-Intellect Challenge (IMIC) was a student-led physiology competition, held on May 2, 2024, at Islam Medical and Dental College. The event was organized and executed by students, with strong support from the faculty of the Department of Physiology. The IMIC aimed to test and enhance the knowledge and understanding of physiology among participants from Islam Medical and Dental College.

The challenge comprised three categories: Brainteaser Bonanza, Research Rendezvous, Enigma Escape, and a Millionaire Round. In addition to the academic competition, two social events, a Pictionary Challenge and a Trivia Bar, were organized for all students.

Event Objectives:

  • To provide a platform for students to test their knowledge of physiology.
  • To encourage students to engage with research and apply their understanding of physiology to practical scenarios.
  • To promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills among participants.
  • To foster a collaborative and engaging learning environment.
  • To facilitate interaction and camaraderie among students through social events.

Event Structure:

The IMIC was structured around three main competitive categories, and a surprise round:

  1. Brainteaser Bonanza: This category involved participants solving riddles related to physiology.
  2. Research Rendezvous: This segment focused on research skills. Participants developed and presented case studies based on provided research scenarios and patient profiles.
  3. Enigma Escape: This category involved an escape room-style challenge, likely involving the application of physiological knowledge to solve puzzles and progress through OSPE (Objective Structured Practical Examination) stations.
  4. Millionaire Round: This was a high-risk, high-reward round designed for participants who did not qualify for the finals of the three main categories.

The event also included two social events:

  1. Pictionary Challenge: A drawing-based game designed to encourage visual representation and communication of physiological concepts.
  2. Trivia Bar: A social gathering involving trivia questions related to physiology, promoting a relaxed and interactive learning environment.

Faculty Support:

The event was strongly supported by the faculty of the Department of Physiology. Their support was crucial in guiding the student organizers and ensuring the academic rigor and success of the IMIC.

Special thanks to Worthy Chairman Islam Group, Mr. Chaudhary M. Islam, Respected Principal Islam Medical College, Prof. Dr. Zamir Ahmed, Head of Department Physiology, Prof. Dr. Mamoona Shafiq, Prof Dr Omar Shamim, Asst Prof Dr Ibrahim Liaquat, Asst Prof Dr Mehwish Qamar, Asst Prof Dr Maham Tahir, and Asst Prof Dr Nayab Kahlid. This event could not have happened without the unconditional support from these faculty members.

Students Involvement:

The IMIC saw active participation from students of Islam Medical and Dental College. Participants demonstrated their knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm in the various competitive categories. The social events were well-attended, fostering a sense of community and engagement.

We also extend our thanks to the Core Cabinet of the IMIC, especially M Asad Saeed – President IMIC, Hussnain Mustaq – VP IMIC, Momina Fazil Khan – Executive Director, Abdullah Sikander – General Category Manager, Safa Khalid – Decore Head, and Wajdan Saeed – Media Head, along with the entire organizing committee.

Outcomes and Achievements:

  • Winners from each of the competitive categories were awarded cash prizes, recognizing their achievements.
  • The event was successful in providing a platform for students to test and enhance their knowledge of physiology.
  • Participants gained valuable experience in research, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • The IMIC fostered a positive learning environment and promoted interaction among students and faculty.
  • The social events contributed to a sense of community and made the event enjoyable for all attendees.

Conclusion:

The Islam Med-Intellect Challenge (IMIC) 2024 was a successful student-led initiative that provided a valuable learning experience for participants. The event demonstrated the students’ knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm for physiology, and was well-supported by the faculty. The combination of academic competition and social events created a dynamic and engaging environment. The IMIC has the potential to become a recurring event, making a significant contribution to the academic and social life of Islam Medical and Dental College.
